Rugby League Round 15 Fallout Sees Disciplinary Concerns for Multiple Sides
The aftermath of Round 15 in the Rugby League competition will have several teams on edge as they await potential disciplinary actions from the league. A number of incidents occurred across the six matches played over the course of the week.
Thursday’s low-scoring affair saw Hull KR edge out Castleford Tigers 13-12, with Jez Litten’s late drop goal proving the difference. Mikey Lewis and Elliot Minchella stood out for their impressive performances, which will boost their chances of making the England squad for the upcoming match against France.
Friday’s action at Headingley saw Leeds Rhinos honor the legacy of club legend Rob Burrow with an 18-10 victory, inspired by a standout display from Brodie Croft. Meanwhile, Wigan Warriors cruised to a 36-0 win over London Broncos, but the game could face disciplinary scrutiny due to an incident involving London’s Emmanuel Waine.
Saturday’s matches were also not without controversy. Hull FC fans claimed referee Ben Thaler missed a crucial knock-on call in their 24-18 loss to Warrington Wolves, while Adam Holroyd’s yellow card for the Wolves could also lead to further punishment. Catalans Dragons held off a spirited Huddersfield Giants comeback to win 22-18 and heap more pressure on coach Ian Watson.
The round concluded on Sunday with Salford Red Devils edging out reigning champions St Helens 20-18, thanks to the reliable boot of Marc Sneyd. However, Sneyd’s attempt to deliberately miss a penalty in the first half to set up a try was immediately called back by the officials.
“The Rugby League now takes a break to allow for the England vs. France international fixture, but the disciplinary panel will still have plenty to consider with potential sanctions looming for several teams.”
