Rugby League Results: Hull FC Suffer Treble Injury Blow in Warrington Wolves Clash
Hull FC endured a challenging afternoon on the pitch as they faced off against Warrington Wolves in their Round 15 encounter on Saturday. The Airlie Birds were dealt a significant blow to their forward pack, with three key players forced to leave the field due to injuries.
In the 18th minute, second-rower Cam Scott was the first to depart, having picked up a hamstring issue. He was unable to return, and emerged for the second half in a club tracksuit, his game finished.
Scott was replaced by Jack Ashworth, who appeared to accidentally collide with teammate Ligi Sao as they tried to recover, leading to Warrington scoring a try through Danny Walker early in the second half. Ashworth subsequently sustained what the Sky Sports commentary team described as a ‘severe twist’ to his right ankle, and was forced to limp gingerly from the field.
“Just a few minutes later, loose forward Sao also followed suit, leaving Hull FC down to just one man on the bench for the final 20 minutes or so as they searched for a second consecutive victory.”
Earlier in the contest, Hull winger Tom Briscoe required a Head Injury Assessment, which he would go on to pass. Brad Fash also had to be patched up, having to change his shirt midway through the first half due to a cut close to his eye that was seeping blood.
At the time of writing, with 14 minutes remaining, Warrington held an 18-12 lead over the hosts. Sam Burgess’ side had been 12-0 up at the break, but a try from Hull youngster Denive Balmforth, followed by a score from Walker and a successful conversion from Josh Thewlis, had turned the tide in Warrington’s favor. Liam Sutcliffe’s try and Ben Reynolds’ conversion had brought the score back to 18-12, setting up a tense finish.
