Wigan Warriors Coach Confirms Ankle Injuries for Key Players After Convincing Victory
Wigan Warriors Coach Provides Injury Update
Wigan Warriors coach Matt Peet provided an injury update following his side’s dominant 36-0 win over the London Broncos, revealing that hooker Kruise Leeming and centre Jake Wardle both sustained ankle issues during the match.
“I don’t think there’s any intent in it whatsoever but when you see it, you know it. He spoke about trying to run it off but I don’t think there was any chance.”
Leeming, who came off the bench, played around 25 minutes before leaving the action in the early stages of the second half after a tackle from London forward Emmanuel Waine, who was subsequently sin-binned.
Wardle departed the field with around five minutes remaining after rolling his ankle. Peet noted that the centre had experienced similar ankle problems in the past, expressing hope that the latest setback would not be too serious.
Importance of the Upcoming Break
The Wigan boss acknowledged the need for his squad to take advantage of the upcoming international break to rest and recharge before the challenging second half of the Super League campaign.
“Every team probably feels the same but when you get to a final, you don’t have any free weekends, the World Club Challenge was obviously a big event but I do think this is an important period for us that we refresh in the right way.”
Peet emphasized the importance of allowing his players and staff to take time off to spend with their families, ensuring they are reinvigorated and ready to tackle the intense run-in towards the end of the season.
