Leeds Rhinos Bolster Ranks with Short-Term Loan of Wigan Warriors Forward Sam Eseh Amidst Concussion Concerns
In a move to fortify their roster, the Leeds Rhinos have announced the signing of Wigan Warriors forward Sam Eseh on a short-term loan deal. This comes as the Rhinos stand down four more players due to concussion protocol, underscoring the club’s commitment to player safety.
The quartet of Harry Newman, Ash Handley, Tom Holroyd, and Sam Lisone will miss Friday night’s clash against the Leigh Leopards after the Rhinos reviewed footage from their recent defeat to Hull FC. Leeds has emphasized its dedication to the brain health of its players, adopting the correct protocol in sidelining these individuals.
“We are committed to the health and safety of our players, and that means taking the appropriate steps when it comes to concussion-related concerns.”
- Leeds Rhinos Head Coach
Compounding the issue, Andy Ackers, James Bentley, and Morgan Gannon are also currently sidelined with concussion symptoms, with Gannon ruled out for the remainder of the year. This means Leeds now has seven first-team players absent due to concussion-related concerns.
In response, the Rhinos have turned to the transfer market, bringing in Eseh on an initial short-term loan deal. The young forward joined Wigan at the start of the season and has spent time on loan at Castleford Tigers as he awaited an opportunity with the reigning Super League champions.
Eseh will almost certainly feature for Leeds on Friday night as the team prepares to face the Leopards in a pivotal match for their play-off aspirations. The addition of the Wigan player aims to bolster the Rhinos’ lineup and provide depth amid the ongoing concussion challenges.
