Rob Burrow: A Rugby League Icon Remembered as Leeds Rhinos Face Hull FC
21 years ago, on a fateful day in 2001, a young Rob Burrow made his senior debut for the Leeds Rhinos against Hull FC. Little could anyone have predicted the on-field magic and legendary status that the diminutive number 29 would go on to achieve over the course of his illustrious career.
Burrow was a core member of the Leeds “golden generation,” alongside the likes of club icon Kevin Sinfield. Together, they formed one of the most decorated sides in rugby league history, winning an array of trophies including eight Super League Grand Finals, three League Leader’s Shields, three World Club Challenges, and two Challenge Cups.

Burrow, of course, has become an inspirational figure far beyond the field of play. Since his diagnosis with motor neurone disease in 2019, he has tirelessly campaigned and raised over £20 million for related charities, earning him both an MBE and CBE. Tragically, Burrow passed away on June 2nd, 2023, but his legacy as a rugby league icon will live on forever.
