Hull FC Bolster Mid-Season Roster with Jed Cartwright Signing
In a mid-season roster move, Hull FC have secured the services of forward Jed Cartwright on an 18-month contract. The signing of Cartwright, the son of incoming coach John Cartwright, is expected to provide a timely boost for the club as they look to pull away from the bottom of the Super League table.
Cartwright, a second-row/centre, has proven himself to be a talented player with potential that has often been overshadowed by the depth of talent in his previous clubs. After coming through the Penrith system, where he won the NSW Cup playing alongside the likes of Jarome Luai, Viliame Kikau and Moses Leota, he found opportunities at the first-grade level limited, with seasoned veterans occupying his preferred positions.
“A move to South Sydney Rabbitohs provided further challenges, as Cartwright found himself behind an impressive back-row unit of Cameron Murray, Jai Arrow and Keaon Koloamatangi.”
Undeterred, he continued to impress in the NSW Cup, winning another title last year before exploring a move to Newcastle Knights. However, even in Newcastle, the emergence of young talents Kai Pearce-Paul and Dylan Lucas, coupled with the presence of experienced forward Tyson Frizell, meant Cartwright’s playing time was once again restricted.
Now, at Hull FC, Jed Cartwright will have the opportunity to showcase his skills and make a lasting impact. Known for his size, work ethic and versatility, the young forward is poised to provide a much-needed boost to the Black and Whites’ squad as they navigate the remainder of the Super League season.
While the signing of a coach’s son is not always viewed as a positive, in Cartwright’s case, his undeniable talent and the potential he has shown throughout his career suggest that this move could pay dividends for both the player and the club.
