Leeds Rhinos Coach Confirms Offer for Rhyse Martin to Stay Beyond 2023
Leeds, UK
In a bid to retain their star player, Leeds Rhinos coach Rohan Smith has confirmed that the club has made an offer to Rhyse Martin to remain with the team in 2025. Smith expressed his hope that the Papua New Guinea international will re-sign with the Rhinos.
Martin’s current contract at Headingley is set to expire at the end of the 2023 season, with Super League rivals Leigh Leopards and NRL club Dolphins reportedly interested in his services, according to Rugby League Live and Love Rugby League.
“We’d like Rhyse to stay and Rhyse has been made an offer,” Smith stated. “That’s something that, along with a few other players, that Ian (Blease) will get his head around when he’s in the building. We’ll discuss that and take the appropriate course of action as it goes. We want Rhyse to stay.”
The Rhinos coach also offered his full support for the appointment of Ian Blease as the club’s new sporting director, who will be joining the team from Super League rivals Salford next week.
“I’m fully supportive of the appointment,” Smith said. “I’ve come across Ian in my time as a very young coach, I was on the other side of some teams Ian was involved in and when Ian was a player agent, we had some conversations and spent a bit of time together. There’s a mutual respect there and looking forward to working together.”
The Rhinos are set to face Hull FC on Saturday afternoon as they continue their quest for success in the 2023 rugby league season.
