Rugby League Sensation David Armstrong Extends His Stay with the Newcastle Knights
Newcastle, [Current Date] – In a major coup for the Newcastle Knights, their rising star fullback David Armstrong has rejected a lucrative offer from the Sydney Roosters and signed a new two-year contract with the club. The 23-year-old sensation has been making waves in the NRL, impressing in his debut season and catching the eye of potential suitors across the league.
Despite interest from the Leigh Leopards, who had been keen on signing Armstrong after missing out on Tristan Sailor from the Brisbane Broncos, the young fullback has committed his future to the Knights. Head coach Adrian Lam of the Leigh Leopards had even acknowledged the club’s interest, stating, >”I know there’s been a link to him and I’ve spoken to ten players in the NRL that are off-contract in the last ten months, he’s one of them.”
However, the move to the Leigh Leopards fell through, and the Knights have managed to fend off interest from the Roosters and “at least one other club” to secure Armstrong’s services for the next two seasons. A source from the Knights club told Wide World of Sports, >”The Roosters went in hard but he likes it here and is a great kid.”
Armstrong’s impressive performances in the NSW Cup last year, where he scored 15 tries in 18 games, have translated to the NRL stage. With the ability to play at both fullback and on the wing, the young star has filled the void left by the departure of Dom Young and has stepped up in the absence of Kalyn Ponga, scoring five tries in five games as the starting fullback.
While he may have struggled against the Canterbury Bulldogs last weekend, Armstrong’s overall impact has been undeniable, earning him the attention of clubs across the league. However, the 23-year-old has now committed his future to the Knights, much to the delight of the club and its passionate supporters.
