Rugby League Homecomings: Seven Players Who Returned to Their Old Clubs
In the world of rugby league, there’s a special allure to players returning to their former clubs. From Jordan Abdull’s move back to Hull FC in 2025 to Tom Briscoe’s recent reunion with the Airlie Birds, the sport has witnessed several such homecomings over the years.
Hailing from Hull, Abdull got his first professional opportunity with the Black & Whites, making 54 appearances before departing in 2018. After stints with London Broncos and Hull KR, the playmaker will don the Hull FC jersey once again, signing a three-year deal that will see him reunited with the club in 2025.
Veteran winger Tom Briscoe is another Hull FC stalwart who experienced a decade-long absence before rejoining the club earlier this year. The 34-year-old won multiple domestic titles with Leeds Rhinos before his return to the Airlie Birds.
Salford-born Marc Sneyd is another player to have come full circle, leaving the Red Devils in 2014 to join Hull FC, where he became a prolific point-scorer. The half-back returned to Salford in 2022, eight years after his initial departure.
Ryan Hall, Leeds Rhinos’ second-highest try-scorer in the Super League era, will don the famous Rhinos jersey once again in 2025 after a stint with Sydney Roosters and Hull KR. Similarly, Wigan Warriors’ utility back Ryan Hampshire has reunited with the Cherry & Whites after a seven-year absence.
Veteran hooker Micky Higham and Leon Pryce, a Bradford Bulls legend, are two other players who returned to their respective boyhood clubs later in their careers, cementing their legacies with additional spells at Leigh Centurions and the Bulls.
