Salford Red Devils Suffer Setback as Jack Ormondroyd Ruled Out for Season
In a blow to the Salford Red Devils’ 2024 campaign, head coach Paul Rowley has confirmed that influential prop Jack Ormondroyd has been sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a rib injury. The standout forward has been a key part of the Red Devils’ success so far this year, but has not played since May 10.
Adding to Salford’s concerns, young forward Matty Foster had to be assisted from the field during the closing stages of their 34-4 victory over London on Sunday. Despite the win, Rowley acknowledged that the club is facing challenges in their middle unit.
However, the Red Devils have received a boost with the impending arrival of new signing Loghan Lewis from the NRL’s Canberra Raiders. The 21-year-old loose forward, who can also play in the back and front row, is expected to join the squad in the latter part of next week and will provide additional depth to the Salford pack.
“Nobody is giving big barnstorming props away at this time of year are they? So we’ll focus on an equally as important thing which is character.”
Rowley spoke positively about Lewis, describing him as a “guy who builds his game on character and works hard.” The coach emphasized the importance of character in the team’s recruitment, stating, “Nobody is giving big barnstorming props away at this time of year are they? So we’ll focus on an equally as important thing which is character.”
With the loss of Ormondroyd and the injury concerns surrounding Foster, Rowley and the Red Devils will be hoping that Lewis can make an immediate impact and help the team overcome these challenges as they continue their push for success in the 2024 season.
