Leeds Rhinos Snap Winless Streak with Dominant Victory over Castleford Tigers
The Leeds Rhinos have finally found their form, securing a comfortable 34-6 triumph over the Castleford Tigers at Headingley Stadium. This victory comes as a much-needed boost for the Rhinos, who have endured a stuttering start to the Super League season.
Rhyse Martin was the standout performer for the home side, scoring two tries and kicking five goals to guide the Rhinos to a convincing win. The result has lifted Leeds into the Super League’s top six, at least temporarily, as they await the outcome of Salford Red Devils’ clash with London Broncos.
“That was a strong performance today, regardless of who you’re playing against,” said Leeds head coach Rohan Smith. “The fact is that we’re a work in progress and we’re sitting in the middle of the table in a congested competition.”
Smith acknowledged the “noise” that had been generated by the team’s recent poor results, but he believed that his players showed a lot of courage and connection to overcome the external pressures and deliver a commanding performance.
“To have to deflect that and fight through it, I think it shows a lot of courage and connection as a group to come and play like that today,” the coach added.
While Smith was satisfied with the Rhinos’ clinical approach in attack, he felt they could have been more ruthless in scoring additional points. Nonetheless, he was encouraged by the belief and determination shown by his squad, stating that the high level of confidence within the group had contributed to their recent frustrations.
With the Super League season still in its early stages, the Leeds Rhinos will be hoping that this victory over the Tigers serves as a springboard to build momentum and climb up the table in the coming weeks.
