Rugby League Club Goole Vikings Submits Bid for League 1 in 2025
Goole Vikings, a club playing in the Yorkshire Men’s League, has become the first to publicly acknowledge their bid to join the Rugby Football League’s (RFL) League 1 competition in 2025. Last week, the RFL confirmed that applications were open for a new club to join the professional structure next season, with various clubs across England believed to be considering submitting their interest.
According to the Press Association, Goole Vikings have already made their move, lodging their application to be part of League 1 in the upcoming year. The club’s president, Anthony Whiteley, described Goole as an “untapped area” in the sport’s traditional heartlands and believes they are the ideal candidate to bridge the gap between Castleford and Hull.
“We’ve always believed Goole is a bit of an untapped area in the M62 heartland, and would bridge the gap between Castleford and Hull,” Whiteley stated.
This announcement from Goole Vikings comes as the RFL looks to expand its professional structure, providing an opportunity for new clubs to join the league and contribute to the growth of rugby league in England.
