Warrington Wolves Bolster Squad with Signing of Huddersfield Giants Captain Luke Yates
Warrington, 15 May 2024 – Warrington Wolves have made a significant move in the 2025 rugby league transfer market by securing the signing of Huddersfield Giants captain Luke Yates. The Australian forward, known for his exceptional tackling abilities, will join the Wolves on a two-year deal starting from the 2025 season.
Yates, who came through the ranks at Newcastle Knights in the NRL, has established himself as one of the most consistent and prolific tacklers in Super League. In the 2023 season, he was awarded the Top Tackler award for making the most tackles across the league, totaling 1,027 at an average of 42 per game. This season, he has continued his impressive form, racking up 366 tackles in just nine appearances, despite missing the first three games.
“Yates is a tackling machine, and his leadership qualities make him a valuable addition to our squad. We are delighted to have secured his services for the 2025 season and beyond.”
The signing of Yates is a major coup for Warrington, who have been making waves under the guidance of head coach Sam Burgess. The club’s director of rugby acknowledged the significance of this acquisition, stating, “Yates is a tackling machine, and his leadership qualities make him a valuable addition to our squad. We are delighted to have secured his services for the 2025 season and beyond.”
Yates’ move to the Halliwell Jones Stadium will provide Warrington with additional depth and experience in their forward pack, particularly if reports of Matty Nicholson’s potential departure to the NRL prove accurate. The Australian will join a star-studded roster that includes the likes of Paul Vaughan, Lachlan Fitzgibbon, and Zane Musgrove, further strengthening Warrington’s quest for silverware in the coming seasons.
Yates, who has previously had spells with Salford Red Devils and London Broncos, expressed his excitement about joining Warrington Wolves, stating, “I’m thrilled to be making the move to Warrington. The club has an ambitious vision, and I’m eager to contribute to their success in the years ahead.”
The addition of Luke Yates to the Warrington Wolves squad is a clear statement of intent as the club seeks to build on their impressive 2024 campaign and challenge for the top honors in rugby league.
