Rugby League Results: Blowout Scorelines Dominate the Season So Far
The 2023 Super League season has been marked by a number of lopsided results, with several matches seeing margins of victory exceed 50 points. As the competition reaches the halfway point, the league table remains tightly contested, with four teams – Wigan Warriors, St Helens, Warrington Wolves, and Catalans Dragons – sitting level on 16 points at the top. However, this parity has not always translated to the field of play, with a number of teams suffering heavy defeats.
In one of the most one-sided results of the campaign, St Helens handed struggling Hull FC a 58-0 thrashing, with 10 different try scorers contributing to the rout. The victory saw Saints bounce back from their recent Challenge Cup defeat and move to the top of the table, while it was a dismal day for Hull under interim coach Simon Grix.
Another high-scoring affair occurred in early May, as St Helens overcame Castleford Tigers 60-4. Despite going down to 12 men in the first half, the league leaders produced a dominant second-half display, scoring 52 unanswered points to seal a convincing win.
Warrington Wolves Thrash London Broncos
Warrington Wolves also enjoyed a comfortable victory, thrashing London Broncos 58-4 in the capital. Stefan Ratchford set a new record for consecutive successful kicks from the tee, while Matt Dufty and Josh Thewlis both scored hat-tricks for the Wolves.
The list of heavy defeats continues with Leigh Leopards’ 54-4 triumph over Hull FC, a result that marked a 400th game milestone for Danny Houghton in a disappointing fashion. Castleford Tigers also suffered a heavy loss, going down 50-8 to Huddersfield Giants.
As the Super League season progresses, teams will be looking to find more consistency and avoid the kind of blowout results that have been a feature of the competition so far.
