Fijian Flyer Maika Sivo Could Be Headed for Super League Move in 2025
One of the NRL’s most consistent try-scorers, Fijian international Maika Sivo, could be on his way to the Super League in 2025. The 30-year-old Parramatta Eels winger, who is currently contracted through the 2025 season, is reportedly on the radar of a Super League club as the Eels look to offload his hefty £285,000 ($550,000) annual salary.
Despite registering an impressive seven tries in just five NRL games this season, Sivo has recently been dropped to the New South Wales Cup side, marking the first time he has faced such a demotion since 2022. This decision comes after Sivo missed game time earlier in the season due to a three-game ban following a nasty incident involving Gold Coast’s AJ Brimson.
Sivo’s large contract and the Eels’ transitional phase, following the departure of long-time head coach Brad Arthur, have fueled speculation that the club may undergo a significant roster overhaul for the 2025 season. This could potentially lead to Sivo’s departure, with NRL journalist Michael Carayannis revealing that the Fijian flyer is “on the radar of a Super League club.”
Over the past five seasons, since making his NRL debut in 2019, Sivo has firmly established himself as one of the league’s most prolific try-scorers. Prior to the current campaign, he had amassed an impressive 87 tries in 103 NRL appearances, with his best season coming in 2019 when he scored 22 tries in 25 games.
While Sivo’s current tally of seven tries in five games this season is still impressive, his recent demotion and the Eels’ potential roster shakeup have led to discussions about his future, with fellow NRL journalist confirming that the Fijian is being “shopped overseas” as well.
