Huddersfield Giants Winger Adam Swift Suffers Groin Injury Setback in Challenge Cup Semi-Final Loss
Huddersfield Giants head coach Ian Watson has confirmed that winger Adam Swift was withdrawn at half-time during their Challenge Cup semi-final defeat against Warrington Wolves due to a recurrence of a groin injury.
Swift, who was recently named the Super League’s Player of the Month for April, had missed the Giants’ previous league match against Wigan Warriors after picking up the groin issue the week prior in their loss to Salford Red Devils. He marked his return with a try in the first half of the semi-final, but was unfortunately denied a second score by a last-ditch tackle.
However, Swift’s comeback was short-lived as he was withdrawn at the break, with Warrington already leading 22-4. The Wolves went on to secure a comfortable 46-10 victory, booking their first trip to Wembley since 2019 and dashing Huddersfield’s hopes of ending their 14-year wait to play at the iconic stadium.
“It’s his groin. We thought he was fine, all the indications suggested that,” Watson said. “The fact that he’s not managed to get through the full game is obviously a bit of a worry for us. At the moment, we don’t know the extent of that.”
The Giants boss was also tight-lipped when asked about the sin-binning of full-back Jake Connor, who was involved in a couple of incidents that contributed to the one-sided nature of the semi-final clash. Watson stated that he would speak to Connor about the matter before commenting publicly, suggesting the club will look to address the player’s on-field discipline.
