Experienced Rugby League Coach Shaun Wane Reaffirms Commitment to England Amidst Coaching Speculation
In a revealing interview with Love Rugby League, seasoned rugby league coach Shaun Wane has emphatically stated his unwavering commitment to the England national team, despite speculation linking him to the vacant head coaching role at the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Wane, who has been widely reported as a leading contender for the Rabbitohs job following the sacking of Jason Demetriou, has firmly asserted that his priority remains the 2026 Rugby League World Cup. The former Wigan head coach is determined to help England overcome the heartbreak of their semi-final defeat to Samoa in the 2022 tournament and push for the ultimate prize.
“This job is the pinnacle for me,” Wane declared. “I’m very patriotic, a very proud Englishman. When I got the call saying I’d got it, there was no prouder man in this country – and I still feel the same way.”
Wane’s comments come as the Rabbitohs are believed to be keen on re-appointing veteran coach Wayne Bennett, but the Englishman remains high on their list of potential replacements should a deal for Bennett fail to materialize.

“I wouldn’t be doing this job if I didn’t believe England can win the next World Cup. Hand on heart. We’ve got one more shot at it and I promise you this, the players will be prepared. They will be prepared to win the World Cup, absolutely no doubt about that.”
