Castleford Tigers Retain Option on Four Key Players for 2025 Season
In a move that could shape Castleford Tigers’ future, the club has revealed that three of their players, including long-serving prop Liam Watts, have optional one-year contract extensions for the 2025 season. However, the Tigers are yet to decide whether to activate these extensions.
Key Players’ Futures Uncertain
Watts is joined by hooker Liam Horne, forward Charbel Tasipale, and half-back Danny Richardson as the four senior players whose futures remain uncertain at this stage. The club had until May 3, the traditional deadline for submitting player status updates to the Rugby Football League, to make a decision on these optional extensions, but have not done so as of now.
“The situation surrounding Danny Richardson’s future appears more clear-cut, as the Tigers have admitted they will not be taking up his option, allowing him to leave the club for free at the end of the current season.”
In a recent development, Richardson has secured a loan move to Hull KR, though his long-term prospects for the 2025 campaign are yet to be determined.
Tex Hoy’s Future Intriguing
The future of recent Tigers recruit Tex Hoy also presents an intriguing subplot. Hoy, who signed a deal until the end of this season, is not included on the list of out-of-contract players, suggesting he has either already agreed terms elsewhere for 2025 or that Castleford have offered him a new contract to stay with the club beyond the current year.
With the contract list day revealing the status of players across the Super League, Castleford Tigers find themselves at a crossroads as they weigh the options for retaining four key members of their squad for the 2025 season.
