Leeds Rhinos Face Potential Lengthy Absence of Centre Paul Momirovski
The Leeds Rhinos rugby league team could be without their centre Paul Momirovski for an extended period after he was sent to a specialist to determine the extent of his latest ankle injury.
Momirovski sustained the injury during the Rhinos’ victory over Hull FC on Sunday. It is the same ankle he had previously injured earlier this year, and head coach Rohan Smith admits the club is bracing for the possibility of losing the centre for several weeks.
“He had an MRI yesterday on a syndesmosis injury. It’s a bit more severe than the one he had a month or so ago, which healed quite quickly,” Smith revealed. “He’s going to see a specialist this week to get a timeframe. We’re hoping it won’t involve surgery, but we’re not 100% sure at this stage.”
The setback comes at a challenging time for the Rhinos, who are already without several key backline players. Both Harry Newman and Ash Handley are also unlikely to feature in this Friday’s clash against the London Broncos, as they continue their recoveries from back and rib injuries, respectively.
“Both [Newman and Handley] are unlikely, but we’ll see how they get going,” Smith said. “Harry has had an epidural in his back and he’s getting around much better, but he hasn’t done any full training yet. Ash is out there doing some skills and running, we’ve just got to progress things towards contact.”
Despite the mounting injury concerns, the Rhinos coach remains optimistic about the team’s ability to navigate this period and maintain their competitiveness in the rugby league competition.
