Rugby League News: Huddersfield Giant’s Wallis Cleared of Wrongdoing
In a recent development, Huddersfield Giants winger Elliot Wallis will not face any further action following his red card against Salford Red Devils on Friday night. The Match Review Panel has admitted that Wallis did not head-butt Tim Lafai, as initially believed.
Wallis was given a straight red card by referee Tom Grant, who adjudged that the player had head-butted Lafai during a flashpoint between the two players. However, the Match Review Panel’s notes have clarified that Wallis was not found to have made a butting motion towards his opponent, indicating that the decision to send him off was incorrect.
The panel’s minutes stated: “Player does not head but (sic) opponent. Player moves in towards opponent with head but no butting motion.”
This decision means that Wallis will be free to feature for Huddersfield in their upcoming match against defending Super League champions Wigan Warriors this weekend.
This is the second successive week where no Super League players have been suspended by the Match Review Panel. While five players, including Hull half-back Jake Trueman, were charged, none of them were handed bans.
The news of Wallis’ exoneration will be a relief for the Huddersfield Giants and their supporters, as they prepare to take on the formidable Wigan Warriors in their next fixture.
