Hull FC Recall Ireland International Centre Ed Chamberlain from Leigh Leopards Loan
In a recent development, Hull FC have announced the early recall of Ireland international centre Ed Chamberlain from his loan spell at Leigh Leopards. The 28-year-old had initially joined the Black and Whites on a one-month loan deal, but his parent club Leigh has opted to bring him back sooner than expected.
During his brief tenure with Hull FC, Chamberlain made two appearances, featuring in their losses against Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves. Despite the team’s defeats, the centre’s performances in his natural position were highly promising, leading the Hull FC club to express their desire to extend his loan.
However, the Leigh Leopards have now requested Chamberlain’s return to Leigh Sports Village, ending his stint with Hull FC prematurely. In a statement, the Hull FC club acknowledged Chamberlain’s contributions and wished him the best of luck for the remainder of the season.
Chamberlain, who hails from Warrington, has made a significant impact since joining Leigh Leopards ahead of the 2022 season. He has accumulated 49 appearances for the club and has played twice for them this season. The centre has also represented Ireland in the last two World Cups, earning six caps for his country of heritage.
“We’re disappointed to see Ed leave us, but we understand the decision of his parent club and wish him all the best for the rest of the season,” said a Hull FC spokesperson.
Prior to his move to Leigh, Chamberlain came through the ranks at Widnes Vikings, making 22 first-team appearances after his debut in 2016. He also enjoyed loan spells at various clubs, including Whitehaven, Workington Town, Bradford Bulls, and Salford Red Devils, before securing a permanent move to Salford in 2018 and spending time on loan with London Broncos.
At Leigh, Chamberlain has found his stride, scoring 21 tries in 49 games for the club, including featuring in their Challenge Cup final win over Hull KR at Wembley last year.
