Round Ten of the Super League Concludes with Disciplinary Verdicts
Round Ten of the Super League has concluded, signaling the anticipated release of the Match Review Panel’s disciplinary verdicts. The latest round saw a notable shift from the previous week, which had no charges whatsoever. This time, there were several disciplinary matters to address.
The round was marked by some significant results, with the Catalans Dragons suffering another heavy defeat, this time 30-8 at the hands of the Wigan Warriors. Meanwhile, the league’s top teams, Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves, secured comfortable wins against the bottom-placed London Broncos and Hull FC, respectively.
In a close encounter, Salford Red Devils edged out the in-form Huddersfield Giants 18-16, with Giants winger Elliot Wallis receiving a red card for intentional head-on-head contact with Tim Lafai. Saturday’s action brought more surprises, as Paul Wellens’ St. Helens side lost 40-20 to Hull KR, with Morgan Knowles being sin-binned for head contact. Castleford Tigers mounted a late comeback to draw 28-28 with Leigh Leopards, resulting in the season’s first draw.
The remarkable results of the weekend have left six out of the twelve teams level on points at the top of the table, setting the stage for an intriguing race for the top spots.
Regarding the disciplinary proceedings, there were no player bans for the second consecutive week. However, two Catalans players, Ben Garcia and Julien Bousquet, received fines for head contact and tripping, respectively. Andy Ackers of Leeds Rhinos was charged with “other contrary behaviour,” but no further action was taken. Jake Trueman of Hull FC and Peta Hiku of Hull KR both received £250 fines for Dangerous Contact offenses.
