Leeds Rhinos Coach Praises Young Jack Sinfield’s Impressive Performance
Leeds Rhinos head coach Rohan Smith has heaped praise on young half-back Jack Sinfield following his standout Man of the Match display in the team’s 46-8 victory over London Broncos. The academy graduate, and son of Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield, made his first Super League appearance of the season, impressing throughout the game and even scoring a try.
Speaking to the media after the match, Smith expressed his delight with Sinfield’s performance, saying, “I thought Sinny had a good solid game. He’s certainly grown as a young bloke. He got thrown in there in tough circumstances a couple of years ago, which was probably a little bit too early, but he’s grown and progressed a lot since then.”
The coach further added, “He’s a terrific young bloke. He works hard, takes on criticism, works on his game, builds his game and is the ultimate squad player at this point. I’m really pleased with the way Jack went about it.”
With Brodie Croft picking up a groin injury in the first half, Sinfield was thrust into the role of the only recognized half-back on the pitch for the Rhinos. However, Smith praised the youngster’s ability to step up and steer the team around the park, stating, “He stepped forward then when Brodie came off, did a bit more probably than he would have otherwise, which was a good experience for him.”
The decision to select Sinfield over new signing Matt Frawley was a “selection choice,” according to Smith, who acknowledged the difficulty of those conversations but emphasized that it was the right decision for the group. Frawley, who joined the Rhinos from the Canberra Raiders, has made 10 appearances for the club this season, scoring one try.
The victory over the London Broncos was a much-needed one for the Leeds Rhinos, as they ended a run of four straight home defeats. Tries from Brodie Croft, Ash Handley, James McDonnell, Luis Roberts, Mickael Goudemand, Jack Sinfield, Sam Lisone, and Justin Sangare guided the Rhinos to their first home win since early March, easing some of the pressure on coach Rohan Smith.
