Rugby League Remains Searching for New Hull FC Coach After Smith’s Departure
It has been nearly a month since Hull FC parted ways with head coach Tony Smith, yet the club remains without a replacement. Despite an offer made to former Salford Red Devils boss Paul Rowley, he has turned down the opportunity to lead the Black and Whites.
With Rowley out of the running, Hull FC’s search for a new head coach has been filled with speculation and rumored candidates. Former Leeds Rhinos head coach Brian McDermott was briefly mentioned as a potential option, but Sky Sports reporter Jenna Brooks quickly dismissed those claims, stating that McDermott is “extremely happy” in the NRL.
Another name that has been floated is former Hull KR assistant coach and Leeds Rhinos legend Danny Maguire. Brooks revealed that Maguire will be a guest on Sky Sports this week, hinting that he may be questioned about the vacant Hull FC position.
The boldest name on the reported shortlist, according to Brooks, is Leigh Centurions head coach Adrian Lam. The reporter suggested that Hull FC’s recent signing of John Asiata for the 2025 season could be a hint that Lam may be making the move to the MKM Stadium next year.
Brooks’ list of potential candidates also includes Lee Briers, Simon Grix, Martin Gleeson, Jason Demetriou, Danny Ward, Shaun Wane, Chad Randall, and Dean Young. However, the interim head coach, Simon Grix, is not expected to be rushed into the permanent role.
With no clear frontrunner emerging, Hull FC’s search for their next head coach continues, as the team looks to turn their fortunes around after a challenging start to the season.
