Wigan Warriors Embrace Roster Depth Amid Squad Competition
Wigan, April 14th – The Wigan Warriors have enjoyed a remarkable 12-month stretch on the pitch, capped by winning the Super League Grand Final and the World Club Challenge. Off the field, the club has also made some astute signings to bolster an already strong squad.
However, this depth of talent has led to limited opportunities for some new acquisitions, including Tiaki Chan, who joined the Warriors from the Catalans Dragons in the offseason. Coach Matt Peet has acknowledged that Chan may require a loan move to secure much-needed game time and work his way back into the first-team picture.
“He’s going to play for the reserves at the weekend and it might be moving forward, he plays a couple of weeks out on loan to get the game time he needs and to work his way back into our squad,” Peet told Wigan Today.
The Warriors have recently welcomed the return of key players like Sam Walters and Ethan Havard from injury, intensifying the competition for places within the squad. Peet emphasized the importance of players on the fringes being ready to seize their chance when it arises.
“It’s all about being the best prepared you can be and looking to improve every week as a player,” Peet said. “If you’re going to improve by playing reserve grade or out on loan, to show that you’re ready for that first-team opportunity when it comes, then so be it.”
Wigan’s depth and roster management will be crucial as they aim to build on their recent successes and maintain their position as one of the top clubs in the Super League.
