The Importance of Squad Depth in the Super League Season
The Super League season is quickly approaching the halfway mark, and for some clubs, squad depth has become a real issue. Injuries and suspensions have hit several teams hard, with poor form also contributing to the number of players each club has used so far in 2024.
Hull FC tops the list, having utilized 31 players throughout the year. The squad has faced challenges, with players such as Liam Moore, Denive Balmforth, and Franklin Pele featuring prominently. Castleford Tigers are not far behind, using 30 players, including the likes of George Lawler, Jacob Miller, and Liam Watts.
London Broncos and Warrington Wolves have both used 26 players, showcasing the depth required to navigate the demanding Super League schedule. Clubs like Huddersfield Giants and Salford Red Devils have also rotated 25 players each, highlighting the toll the season has taken on their rosters.
At the other end of the spectrum, St Helens have used the fewest players, with only 21 individuals featuring so far in 2024. The reigning champions have maintained a level of consistency, with key players like Jonny Lomax, Alex Walmsley, and Jack Welsby anchoring the squad.
