Rugby League Fans Eagerly Await the Reveal of 2025 Super League Clubs
The Rugby Football League has confirmed that the identity of the 12 clubs set to compete in the 2025 Super League season will be unveiled on Wednesday, October 23rd. This highly anticipated announcement will come as the result of IMG’s comprehensive grading system, which will determine the clubs awarded a place in the top-tier competition.
Detailed Assessment Schedule Revealed
For the first time, more details have been released regarding the assessment schedule over the remainder of 2023. The final gradings will not be disclosed to either the clubs or the public until after the conclusion of all competitive matches, including the Super League Grand Final on October 12th and the Championship Grand Final a week later.
Clubs will have the opportunity to submit their relevant data to the RFL throughout September, allowing them to provide the most up-to-date records across a variety of metrics for the 2024 season. This information will be combined with their 2022 and 2023 data to generate a three-year overview, which will form the basis for the 2025 gradings.
Clubs Kept in the Dark
While clubs can utilize a forecasting tool created by IMG to estimate their potential scores, they will not have access to the scores of their competitors. As explained by the RFL’s Tony Sutton, “What they don’t get is a view of everyone else, though.“
Potential for Future Expansion
With seven clubs – Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, St Helens, Warrington Wolves, Catalans Dragons, Hull FC, and Hull KR – having received provisional A grades last year, and several other Super League sides optimistic about meeting the 15-point threshold for elevation, the topic of potential league expansion has once again emerged. However, Sutton has confirmed that for 2025, the Super League will remain a 12-team competition, with the future aspiration to grow the league as more clubs achieve the coveted A grade.
