Leigh Leopards Eye Potential Signing Targets Ahead of 2025 Season
Starting tomorrow, Leigh Leopards, along with all Super League clubs, will have the opportunity to sign players ahead of the 2025 season. It was a challenging start to the year for the Leopards, winning just one of their first seven games – against struggling Hull FC. However, their impressive 30-2 victory over then-league leaders Catalans Dragons has shown they may now be heading in the right direction, following their Challenge Cup triumph in 2023.
One player already tipped as a potential target for next year is Konrad Hurrell, with the centre among the high-profile names set to be available for transfer. But if that move doesn’t materialize, the club’s owner Derek Beaumont and head coach Adrian Lam may look to recruit from these three other options.
Matthieu Laguerre
Matthieu Laguerre, a top centre at Catalans Dragons, could be an attractive target for Leigh, who may be able to capitalize on the French club’s reported financial challenges. The 32-year-old has scored an impressive 18 tries in 32 Super League appearances, and would fill a potential gap in the Leopards’ squad if he were to swap Perpignan for Leigh.
Willie Isa
Another big-name off-contract player is Wigan’s Willie Isa, who can play in a variety of forward roles, as well as centre or on the wing. Despite Leigh’s inability to bring in marquee signings this year due to salary cap restrictions, the club’s four overseas player departures next year could open the door for a statement signing like Isa.
Matty Russell
Finally, Warrington Wolves’ Matty Russell is another option worth considering. Both Zak Hardaker and Gareth O’Brien, Leigh’s current full-back options, are out of contract at the end of the season, and Russell’s experience as both a full-back and winger could make him an attractive prospect. The 30-year-old has almost 100 career tries to his name and impressed in the full-back role in 2021, which could entice Beaumont to bring him to the Leopards.
