Rugby League Update: A Third of the Way Through the Super League Season
As we reach the ninth round of the 2024 Super League season, it’s time for an updated assessment of the 12 top-flight teams. Over the past few weeks, the landscape has shifted, with some clubs making significant strides while others have struggled to find their footing.
Castleford Tigers have shown signs of improvement, securing two Super League wins since the initial gradings, including a dominant 40-0 victory over London Broncos. However, their overall performance hasn’t been entirely satisfactory, and they remain in the lower echelons of the table.
Catalans Dragons continue to grind out results, maintaining their spot at the top of the league. While they may not have hit their highest gear yet, their consistent winning record has earned them a B- grade.
Huddersfield Giants have been a pleasant surprise, winning five consecutive matches and booking a spot in the Challenge Cup semi-finals. Their only setback was a narrow defeat to St Helens, earning them a solid B grade.
Hull FC’s woes have continued, with the club unable to find a winning formula since the departure of Tony Smith. Their dismal run of results has seen them slip further down the grading scale to an F.
Hull KR’s impressive form was disrupted by a heavy defeat to Catalans, but they have since bounced back with a crucial home win over Wigan Warriors, earning them a B- grade.
Leeds Rhinos’ progress has been hindered by injuries, leading to a dip in their performances and a C- grading.
Leigh Leopards have shown signs of improvement, securing two crucial wins, including a memorable victory over Catalans. Their grading has been elevated to a D+.
London Broncos’ struggle for results continues, culminating in a heavy loss to Castleford. Their defensive frailties have earned them an F+ grade.
Salford Red Devils have maintained their strong start, with just two defeats in the league so far. Their A- grade reflects their consistent performances.
St Helens may not be at their absolute best, but their position at the top of the table has earned them an A- grade.
Warrington Wolves have consistently put in solid displays, reaching the Challenge Cup semi-finals and remaining in contention for a top-placed finish. They receive an A- grading.
Wigan Warriors, the reigning World Club Challenge champions, have continued to grind out results, earning them an A grade despite some occasional dips in form.
As the season progresses, these gradings will undoubtedly continue to evolve, reflecting the teams’ performances and the ever-changing dynamics of the Super League competition.
